What is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon?
An Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon is a regional specialist surgeon treating the entire facial complex that is the mouth, jaw, neck and face as well as associated structures.
Is your Surgeon a medical doctor?
Yes. Our Surgeons hold both medical and dental degrees. After completion of both degrees they then enter into at least a year of general surgery followed by 4 years of intensive maxillofacial training. Our surgeons have all taken further fellowship training in other international centres including Switzerland, the United States and the United Kingdom. Your Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon is extremely well qualified to treat conditions in the head and neck region.
Do I need a referral?
Yes. As with all specialist services a referral is required prior to attending an appointment. Medicare rebates are available for medical procedures. Dental procedures may not attract a medicare rebate.
Where will I be treated?
Our doctors consult from various practices to make it convenient for you to attend an appointment. We try to ensure that public transport is handy and that car parking is available at no charge.
Your initial consultation will be at our practice. Your surgical procedure, if required, will either be at one of the hospitals we visit or at our rooms at Greenslopes.
Our main practice is at 8 Vine Street, Greenslopes. We also consult at Alexandra Hills, Beenleigh, Brookwater and Indooroopilly.
The hospitals we visit are Sunnybank Private Hospital, Mater Private Hospital South Brisbane, Mater Private Hospital Springfield, Greenslopes Private Hospital and Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. Not all doctors visit all hospitals.
When will I be seen?
With two specialist Surgeons we aim to see you as quickly as possible. Your referring Doctor will usually advise us if your appointment is required on an urgent basis. Your Doctor may also advise an appointment with our first available surgeon rather than nominating one of our Surgeons.
